Succoth is a Hebrew place name meaning “booths” or “shelters.”
The name was used for more than one place mentioned in Scripture.
Biblical Usage
In Genesis, Succoth was a place where Jacob settled after meeting Esau and built booths for his cattle.
In Exodus, Succoth was the first named stopping place of the children of Israel after they departed from Rameses.
Another place called Succoth is mentioned in the account of Gideon and was located east of the Jordan.
