Meaning
The Red Sea is a sea located between northeastern Africa and the Arabian Peninsula.
It forms a connection between the northern Indian Ocean and the Mediterranean region through its northern branches.
Biblical Usage
In Scripture, the Red sea is the body of water that the children of Israel crossed on dry ground when they departed from Egypt.
The LORD divided the waters so that Israel passed through, while Pharaoh’s army followed after them and was overwhelmed by the returning waters.
The crossing of the Red sea is repeatedly remembered in Scripture as part of Israel’s departure from Egypt.
