An exodus is a large-scale departure or mass movement of people away from a place.
The word comes from the Greek exodos, meaning “going out” or “departure.”
Biblical Usage
In Scripture, the Exodus refers specifically to the departure of the children of Israel from Egypt under the leadership of Moses.
The LORD brought Israel out of Egyptian bondage, led them through the Red sea, and brought them into the wilderness.
The Exodus became a defining event in the history of Israel and is repeatedly remembered throughout Scripture.
