Meaning
Hushai is a Hebrew masculine personal name. Its precise etymology is uncertain, so a definite English meaning should not be assigned without reliable evidence.
Biblical Usage
Hushai the Archite was a friend of David. When David fled Jerusalem during Absalom’s rebellion, Hushai met him and followed David’s instructions to return to the city and frustrate Ahithophel’s counsel.
Hushai advised Absalom to gather Israel’s forces before pursuing David. Absalom accepted Hushai’s advice rather than Ahithophel’s immediate plan. Hushai’s message was then sent to David through messengers.
