Meaning
Hagar is a biblical feminine proper name possibly meaning “flight.”
The exact origin of the name is uncertain, and an Egyptian origin has also been proposed.
Biblical Usage
In Scripture, Hagar was an Egyptian handmaid of Sarai and the mother of Ishmael.
After Sarai gave Hagar to Abram as a wife, Hagar conceived Ishmael.
She was later sent away with Ishmael into the wilderness, where the angel of the LORD met her and God heard the voice of the child.
