Meaning
Passover is a feast commemorating the LORD’s passing over the houses of the Israelites in Egypt.
The observance was instituted before Israel departed from Egypt and was to be kept as a memorial throughout their generations.
Biblical Usage
In Scripture, the Passover was instituted by God before the children of Israel departed from Egypt.
Each household was to take a lamb without blemish, eat it with unleavened bread and bitter herbs, and put its blood upon the doorposts and lintel.
The LORD passed over the houses marked by the blood, and the firstborn of Israel were spared.
The Passover was later observed by Israel according to the commandment given through Moses.
