Eleazar is a Hebrew proper name meaning “God has helped.”


Biblical Usage

In Scripture, Eleazar was the third son of Aaron and Elisheba and served as a priest.

After the death of Nadab and Abihu, he became the chief priestly heir of Aaron and later succeeded Aaron as high priest.

Eleazar also served with Moses and Joshua in matters concerning Israel and the priesthood.
