Meaning
A threshing floor is a level, open area where harvested grain is threshed to separate it from the stalks and chaff.
Biblical Usage
Threshing floors were used to process harvested grain after reaping. Threshing separated the grain from the stalks, and winnowing then separated the grain from the lighter chaff.
Threshing floors appear in agricultural, historical, religious, and figurative passages. The threshing floor of Araunah was purchased by David for an altar to the LORD. The site was later associated with the location of Solomon’s temple.
John the Baptist also referred to the threshing floor when describing the work of the coming One, who would gather the wheat into the garner and burn the chaff with unquenchable fire.
