Meaning
Jerusalem is an ancient city in the land of Israel, associated with the Jebusites before David captured it and established it as his royal city.
Biblical Usage
Jerusalem appears throughout Scripture as a city of political, military, and religious importance. In 2 Samuel 5:6-9, David captures the stronghold of Zion and establishes his royal city there.
The city later becomes closely associated with Solomon’s temple and Israel’s worship. Jerusalem also appears in accounts of conquest, judgment, exile, restoration, and the ministry of Jesus Christ.
