Biblical Usage
In Scripture, testimony refers to a witness, declaration, or evidence.
In Exodus, the term is especially associated with the words and commandments given by God to Israel and with the tablets placed in the ark.
The ark is therefore called the ark of the testimony, and the tables of stone are called the tables of testimony.
The term is also used more broadly throughout Scripture for witness or testimony.
