Meaning
A mountain is a natural elevation of the earth’s surface rising prominently above the surrounding land. Mount Sinai is the name of a mountain associated with the biblical account of Israel’s journey from Egypt.
Biblical Usage
Mount Sinai is where the LORD descended in the sight of the people of Israel and where Moses received the commandments and the tables of testimony (Exodus 19:11, 20; 31:18).
The Israelites camped before the mountain after arriving in the wilderness of Sinai (Exodus 19:1-2). The mountain is also associated with the covenant made with Israel and is referred to in later biblical books (Deuteronomy 5:2; Nehemiah 9:13; Hebrews 12:18-21).
