Meaning
A lintel is the horizontal beam or upper part of a doorframe that spans an opening and supports the structure above it.
Biblical Usage
In Exodus 12:7, 22-23, the LORD instructed the children of Israel to place the blood of the Passover sacrifice on the lintel and the two side posts of their houses. The blood marked the houses during the final plague in Egypt.
In 1 Kings 6:31, a lintel and side posts are mentioned in the construction of the entrance to the oracle in Solomon’s Temple. Amos 9:1 mentions the lintel in a vision of judgment, and Zephaniah 2:14 refers to upper lintels in the description of desolation.
