In Scripture, Dagon is identified as a god of the Philistines.
The book of Judges records that the Philistines gathered in the temple of Dagon after capturing Samson (Judges 16:23–30). In 1 Samuel 5, the Philistines placed the ark of God in the house of Dagon, and the image of Dagon fell before the ark of the LORD. Later, after the death of Saul, his armour was placed in the house of Dagon (1 Chronicles 10:10).
