Scripture

My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him. He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defence; I shall not be moved. In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God. Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah.

Psalm 62:5-8

Truth

Believers can remain steadfast through painful circumstances by placing their trust in God, who is their rock, defence, and refuge.

Insight

  • Hurtful words and rejection can cause deep pain, but they should not become the foundation upon which believers determine their worth or direct their lives.
  • Being spiritually fortified means remaining firmly grounded in God even when circumstances are painful and the actions of others cannot be changed.
  • When believers face situations they cannot fix through their own efforts, they can continue trusting God rather than allowing distress to turn them away from Him.
  • God is a refuge for His people; believers can pour out their hearts before Him instead of carrying their burdens as though they must face them alone.
  • Trusting God does not mean that painful experiences are unreal, but that pain does not have to determine whether believers remain steadfast in Him.

Application

  • Bring your hurt, disappointment, and fears honestly before God in prayer.
  • Do not allow hurtful words or rejection to move you away from trusting and obeying God.
  • When you cannot change a painful situation, seek God's direction and remain faithful to Him.
  • Return to Scripture when your feelings or circumstances threaten to shake your confidence in God.
  • Remember that God is your refuge, and continue to stand firmly upon His Word.
