Meaning
Ziba is a personal name found in the Old Testament. Its etymology is uncertain, so a definite meaning should not be assigned without reliable evidence.
Biblical Usage
Ziba was a servant from the household of Saul. When David asked whether anyone from Saul’s family remained to whom he could show kindness for Jonathan’s sake, Ziba identified Jonathan’s son Mephibosheth.
During Absalom’s rebellion, Ziba brought provisions to David and claimed that Mephibosheth had remained in Jerusalem hoping to regain Saul’s kingdom. When David returned, Mephibosheth gave a different account of what had happened. The narrative records the disagreement between them.
